Grade II listed St Paul's City Centre Church, Newport
Grade II listed St Paul's City Centre Church, Newport
Church in Wales church on the corner of Commercial Street and Palmyra Place.
Now at the western edge of the city centre, when this church was built as St Paui's church in 1835 it was near open countryside. With Newport's rapid increase in size in the following decades, the church became surrounded by buildings. It was also likely that a majority of the small population of Newport in the 1830s were Welsh speaking. This ceased to be true following the large influx of migrants from England and Ireland during the following decades.
The church was grade II listed in February 1980.
