TQ5315 : A lane with several names?

A lane with several names?
A lane with several names?
The nameboard near the junction with Highlands Lane now has 'Ailies Lane', although on Google Street View 'Ailies Road' is on the board. Ordnance Survey has 'Graywood Lane' or 'Greywood Lane' depending which map you look at, and finally Google Earth calls it 'Aflies Road'. The last is obviously a simple spelling mistake. The OS name 'Graywood Lane' properly applies further north beyond the junction with Graywood Road. This lane takes a fairly direct NNE cross-country route for a surprising distance and carries several names along its length. The lane here has also been referred to as 'Whitesmith Lane' but this is incorrect. This name applies to the southern part as far as the Highlands Lane junction.
