This is one of the village's two public houses and is believed to date from around 1901. The interior has been very tastefully set out, with a bar area, and other areas set out for dining. Rather surprisingly this originally was some kind of temperance establishment. In Victorian and Edwardian times alcohol misuse was possibly even more of a social problem than it is now, and a very strong temperance movement emerged to try and combat it. Temperance bars, hotels etc. were quite common, particularly in the north of England, but for a well-heeled village like Barnt Green to have had one is quite unusual.
