The Victoria (3) - sign, 113 Hewell Road, Barnt Green
The sign shows the head of the elderly Queen Victoria, whose long reign lasted from 1837 until early 1901. This sign is on the pub's frontage to Hewell Road. There is an identical one on the frontage to Sandhills Lane. The pub apparently dates from around 1901, so must have built around the time of the Queen's death. It originally was a temperance establishment, but I do not know when it changed over to being an alcohol selling traditional pub. There are a lot of pubs and hotels named after Queen Victoria, but the vast majority seem to have been opened during her reign. This pub therefore is probably one of the last to be named after her.
