ST7665 : The NE end of Hampton Row

taken 8 years ago, near to Bath, Bath And North East Somerset, Great Britain

The NE end of Hampton Row
The NE end of Hampton Row
These houses at the end of Hampton Row have been derelict for decades, ever since Hampton Row was bombed in the Second World War. As people don't want to live so close to the railway line there has been no incentive to restore them, and in the 1970's there was also a threat to build a major road nearby. Unfortunately the proximity of the railway line also means that these are the first buildings a visitor to Bath sees if they arrive by train from London or anywhere else east or south. They are on the notorious list of the 'Top 10 eyesores in Bath' along with ST7465 : A prime brownfield site. Note the false window painted in decades ago; all other window holes have been bricked in.

The footbridge on the right crosses the railway line and is all that remains of the former Hampton Row Halt.
