TL4827 : Windmill Hill

taken 50 years ago, near to Manuden, Essex, Great Britain

Windmill Hill
Windmill Hill
The road to Maggots End close to its junction with Sheepcote Lane.
The elm on the left later succumbed to Dutch Elm disease. The ash, right of centre, survives into the 21st century and many trees have since been planted on the left, obscuring the road junction. In the 1960s and '70s the area to the left was often used for a gipsy encampment or for dumping heaps of road sweepings so they could be naturally cleaned before reuse of the stone chippings.
The lads (my brothers) were putting a prototype Orball (see Geometry and Gravity here LinkExternal link ) through its paces on this quiet lane which proved too narrow for it.
The date is a guess, give or take a year or two.
