Dunkeld Cathedral
Dunkeld Cathedral
Dunkeld has been an important ecclesiastical centre since the 9th century when relics of St Columba were placed here after Iona began to be subjected to sustained Viking assaults. The cathedral the visitor sees today is largely 15th century although subsequent upheavals caused by the Reformation in 1560 and the battle of Dunkeld in 1689 has prompted much restoration work over the centuries.
