The Norwegian cargo ship 'Hop' was sunk by a U-boat on 4th February 1940 (while Norway was strictly still a neutral country). All the crew of 17 lost their lives and the lifeboat washed ashore at Muness on Unst. Three bodies that were found were buried here at Framgord, with others at Baliasta on Unst, and on Fetlar and at Lunna.
