SP1690 : M6 approaching junction 4a southbound

taken 7 years ago, near to Water Orton, Warwickshire, Great Britain

M6 approaching junction 4a southbound
M6 approaching junction 4a southbound
Beyond the B4118 bridge, the southbound M6 now (2012) drops its "hard shoulder" emergency lane to give a 2+2 split for the M42 and M6 motorways. As originally constructed, junction 4a was a conventional junction with a single lane slip road leading off the three lane M6 which immediately split into separate lanes for the northbound and southbound M42. The sign in the distance further allocates M42 traffic into separate directions.
