Craigbank Quarry
Craigbank Quarry
Craigbank quarry near Avonbridge, now disused and a wildlife site. Plant species found here include the Small Toadflax (Chaenorhinum minus), Purple Toadflax (Linaria purpurea) and Knotted Pearlwort (Sagina nodosa). New housing is proposed in this area, and the local council has recommended a buffer zone between any new developments and the quarry. The rock found here is a quartz-dolerite, which was intruded into the Falkirk area in the Carboniferous era as sills and dykes which trend east-north-east.
