Auckland Castle is the official residence of the Bishop of Durham.
The road and the wall are adjacent to the east bank of the River Wear in Bishop Auckland which lies to the left of the image, out of view. A great deal of pointing work has been done to the wall which shows as paler stonework a distance from the camera; the rest is in a fairly shabby state.
