The Barthlomew Room, Market Square, Eynsham
Built around 1701-03, mainly with funds provided by John Bartholomew, to house a charity school. This was on the first floor, as below there were open arches, which were blocked up in the late 19th century. The ground floor was partly used as a lock up, but also housed the Parish fire engine until as late as 1949. Over the years there have been many other uses of the building, including as a court, and probably downstairs for markets. The building was acquired by the Parish Council in 1983 and restored. It is now used for the twice monthly council meetings, and rooms can be hired.
