Former station, Liverpool Road, Manchester
This must be a mecca for railway enthusiasts (amongst others). The completion in 1830 of Liverpool Road Station (the stone-faced section), a terminus of the Liverpool-Manchester railway, made it the first passenger railway station in the world. It is also the oldest surviving such station in the world. The three-bay corner house served as the station agent's house. Grade I listed.
Passenger services ceased fairly soon - in 1844 - but goods traffic continued until 1975. All this has now been incorporated into the Museum of Science and Industry.
