Carlton Hall
Carlton Hall
This impressive manor house on the west side of Church Lane was built in 1765 by Joseph Pocklington (design attributed to John Johnson, but possibly by the owner himself). Pocklington and his brother Roger inherited great wealth from their family banking business and embarked on a series of building exploits around Newark, including Winthorpe Hall and Muskham Grange. Joseph was perhaps best known for his buildings in the Lake District - see LinkExternal link
