SJ8397 : Elisabeth House, St Peter's Square, Manchester

Elisabeth House, St Peter's Square, Manchester
Elisabeth House, St Peter's Square, Manchester
By Cruickshank & Seward, 1959-60. A square complex with central courtyard, shops at ground floor, and offices projecting above, all nestling under an oversailing concrete canopy.
The shops are boarded up and it has been empty for some years now while schemes to replace it with (inevitably) a tower have come to nothing. Refurbishment would be sufficient, unless a quality scheme worthy of the location emerges.
On the left is the Cenotaph: SJ8397 : Cenotaph, St Peter's Square.
Further left is one of the CCTV cameras now ubiquitous in British cities.
Fellow Geographer Keith Williamson informs me that, at February 2012, demolition of this building is almost complete.
