NT2571 : Lauder Griffin, Grange Loan

Lauder Griffin, Grange Loan
Lauder Griffin, Grange Loan
One of the rescued gateposts of Grange House, demolished in 1936, from which the area takes its name. Parts of the estate are intriguingly named 'Large Transylvania' and 'Little Transylvania' on Grainger & Miller's map of 1825. This is the Griffin* which stands to the west on Grange Loan. One can't help feeling a bat might have been more appropriate.

*Actually a wyvern, lest anyone feels the urge to correct
