The Gipping Valley River Path (Gipping Way)

The Gipping Valley River Path is a 17 mile long walk, from Stowmarket to Ipswich, along the River Gipping, mostly following the old towpath. Along the route can be seen old watermills, locks, wildlife and river scenery.

River Gipping

The River Gipping is the name given to the River Orwell above its tidal limit. The River Gipping flows from Stowmarket to Stoke Bridge in Ipswich. Along the River is the Gipping Valley River Path. There are 15 locks on the river most no longer in use, they are the remains of the Ipswich to Stowmarket Navigation.

Great Eastern Main Line

The Great Eastern Main Line (East Anglia Main Line) is a 133 mile long railway line, which connects London Liverpool Street Station with destinations in east London and the East of England, including Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich and several coastal resorts such as Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze also the ports of Harwich and Felixstowe.
The line opened in several sections but was mostly open by 1862.
