SE7971 : Derventio
The photograph you show contains information on two locations for Derventio. In fact there are three. My excavations at Stamford Bridge and my, and others, assessment of the information contained in the Antonine Itinery (Iter 1) shows fairly conclusively that the real site of Derventio is at Stamford Bridge where a massive Roman town, and also the site of an early Roman fort, can be found. My site sits in rural fields, which accounts for the derth of Roman material having been churned-up over the centuries by urban development, as has happened at Malton.
