SJ9493 : Former railway embankment

taken 12 years ago, near to Gee Cross, Tameside, England

Former railway embankment
Former railway embankment
Originally this was the embankment of the Godley Junction to Apethorn railway. Since the line was closed and dismantled the route has become part of the Trans Pennine trail. What looks like a small stream at the bottom is in fact the muddy bridlepath section of the trail. Above the embankment is the bottom of an oak tree SJ9493 : Foxholes Oak which in recent years has lost several branches SJ9493 : Broken Tree Branch, one of which can be seen strewn down the embankment.
