A team rebuilding of the beach. As has been happening all along the East Sussex coast in the past year the shingle beaches are being rebuilt to hold back coastal erosion. The Seven Sisters are in the background.
Cuckmere Haven

Cuckmere Haven (or the Cuckmere Estuary) is an area of flood plains where the River Cuckmere meets the English Channel between Eastbourne and Seaford.

Cuckmere Haven featured heavily in World War II. Pill boxes, anti-tank obstacles, ditches can still be seen. The site was used to confuse bombers into thinking they were over Newhaven, by placing night-lights and setting up a fake runway nearby. During the 16th, 17th & 18th centuries the beach was used by smugglers.

Rebuilding Cuckmere Haven Beach

An Environment Agency team rebuilding the beach. As has been happening all along the East Sussex coast over 2011-2012 the shingle beaches are being rebuilt to hold back coastal erosion, and protect homes along the Sussex coast.
