SU6415 : HURC's Mad March Ramble (20)
taken 12 years ago, near to Hambledon, Hampshire, England
Starting at Stewarts Green the intrepid few that are the Havant United Reformed Church Ramblers set off towards SS Peter & Paul, Hambledon Link Skirting round the churchyard we went past the school Link and towards the vineyard Link Walking along the bottom slopes of Windmill Down we reached the modern cricket ground (which was not where cricket began; that came later) and down Brook Lane towards Park House. Heading north-east for Park Wood we passed round, sometimes through it and eventually found ourselves on Chidden Lane. Taking the circuitous route through fields full of spring lambs we eventually hit the more famous Link cricket ground at Broadhalfpenny Down Link Passing the temptations of the Bat & Ball we walked down East Street until the footpath to take us up onto the Monarch’s Way. Sometimes using it, sometimes taking the road we began to head back. By this time a dog had attached itself to us and stayed with us as we passed Scotland and Glidden Farms. Soon we came to Speltham Hill, a back road that takes you right down into the heart of Hambledon Link Journey’s end was now in sight and yet another “Clifford”* (named after our esteemed leader and our own take on the Scottish Munros Link had been bagged.
