Disused GWR Highworth branch line
Disused GWR Highworth branch line
The disused Great Western Railways (GWR) Highworth branch line between Kingsdown Road and Kingsdown Lane. It was built by the Swindon and Highworth Light Railway Company who sold it to the GWR before the first train ran because of faults they could not afford to repair. The first train ran in 1883. The line above Kingsdown Junction (of which this is a part) was closed in 1962, the remaining line to Swindon in 1964.
This picture was taken looking towards the Kingsdown Junction; remnants of the original fencing can be seen on either side, with a boggy area to the right. LinkExternal link
