Millers Dale Station
Millers Dale Station
This was once a humongous station for the small villages it served. However there was considerable freight traffic due to limestone quarrying in the area. The mainline was the Midland Railway's main trunk route from London to Manchester. The extension from Rowsley opened in 1863, however Dr Beeching cut the route and it closed in 1968. Today the platforms are overgrown but the traffic is still strong and increasing. The major difference is that the traffic is on two feet or wheels.
The station is also famous for two massive viaducts, one is still in use.
