Spigot Mortar Base, Burnham Overy Staithe, Norfolk.
Spigot Mortar Base, Burnham Overy Staithe, Norfolk.
Relic from WW2. The mortar would have pivoted on the stainless steel spigot in the centre of the reinforced concrete base. The spigot mortar was rejected by the regular army but saw service with Home Guard and airfield protection units from 1941-1944. The stainless spigot still hasn't corroded despite its salty environment.
