The Scottish Air Ambulance (SAS) fleet consists of two helicopters and two fixed wing aircraft, each of which was purpose built to SAS specifications.

One Airbus H145 helicopter is based in Glasgow (the other is based at Inverness). This responds to emergency calls and requests from remote, rural or island clinicians to provide medical care and transport to mainland health care facilities.

One King Air 200c plane is also based in Glasgow (the other is based at Aberdeen). This normally responds to medical requests to transfer patients between hospitals.

The Glasgow fleet is based at the Gama Aviation hangar at the east side of the main runway. Gama Aviation was awarded the Scotland-wide contract in 2013 and it will run until 2020. Bond Air Services operate the helicopters on Gama’s behalf.

In addition to being the home of air ambulance operations in the west of Scotland, the Glasgow base is also home to the Scottish Specialist Transport and Retrieval Service 'Scotstar' Link , which is a national retrieval service for critically-ill patients. Scotstar includes the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service, the Scottish Neonatal Transport Service and the Scottish Paediatric Retrieval Service. The service has immediate access to specialist vehicles and aircraft and is the first such facility in the UK.
