Peregrine falcon on a branch at The Floors
The Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) is the country's (probably the world's) fastest bird, capable of reaching 200mph when stooping from height. The cliffs here to the west of Budleigh are a well-known haunt, and we saw several in the course of a weekend, including this particular one, which sat obligingly for several minutes on a dead branch as we walked along the path, before flying off just before the sun came out to improve the lighting.
