Black Lake, Delamere: developing schwingmoor
Black Lake, Delamere: developing schwingmoor
The Black Lake SSSI shows a very early stage in the development of a schwingmoor basin fen, a type of quaking bog. It is part of the Meres and Mosses Ramsar site. The vegetation, including small trees, in much of this picture is floating on the surface of the water. A view of a similar area from the other direction is shown in SJ5370 : Black Lake, Delamere: developing schwingmoor; a more detailed view of the vegetation is shown in SJ5370 : Black Lake, Delamere: detail of floating vegetation
