One of a considerable growth, in very damp ground, near the southern side of the lake. This area has, in previous years, seen the most plants.

The American skunk cabbage is found around the shore of the lake in Hillsborough forest. According to the Habitas website “This is an introduced garden plant, related to our native cuckoo-pint (Arum maculatum) but much bigger, more brightly coloured and found in wet marshy places such as around the lake in Hillsborough Park.” Another site describes it thus “Lysichiton americanus originates from the pacific eastern part of North America from Alaska to California (Western Canada, US-Federal States Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, Idaho)”.
