TA0339 : 45 North Bar Without, front door
taken 12 years ago, near to Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England
45 North Bar Without, front door
Beautifully carved door and surrounds and with the inscription "We like to go as near nature as we can for sixpence". The creature on the left carries a shield bearing the words "Pine wood", and the one on the right the date 1894. The central panel shows the interior of a room; a woman sits by the fireside, holding a child; a man sits at the table on which is a small wooden horse. He appears to be pointing at a cylindrical object, a child's drum perhaps ? The door is open.
There is also a carved doorway at number 8.
TA0239 : Carving above a doorway
Possibly both carvings are by James Elwell (1836-1926)
