J5082 : Stormy Bangor

Stormy Bangor
Stormy Bangor
The winter of 2011/2012 was both mild and fairly unremarkable in Bangor. After an unseasonably warm and pleasant end to March, the first week of April saw a proper north-easterly gale batter the seafront. This is the view along the Eisenhower Pier as the breaking waves rolled in - the hollow precast concrete cubes are doing an excellent job dissipating the force of the waves (see J5082 : South Breakwater, Bangor [detail] for an explanation). The winds were gusting to about 50 knots and the waves were almost breaking over the pier - but this was taken at 5pm, only 90 minutes after low tide; at high tide 4 hours later conditions were much worse.
