Ex-GER 0-6-0T at Stratford Locomotive Depot
In its 300 or so locomotives Stratford Depot had 50 - 60 ex-GER 0-6-0Ts ('Jazzers'), many previously employed on the intensive suburban passenger services from Liverpool Street but from the 1920s were ousted by the N7 0-6-2Ts. In 1947 the Stratford allocation of these 0-6-oTs still exceeded 60 but they were employed on shunting and trip work, not on 'Jazz' trains. Here in 1961, No. 68565 is a survivor: it was built 12/1895 as GE class Y36 No. 389, became LNER class J69 No. 7389 (No. 8565 from 1946) and survived on BR until 8/62.
