Cycling buoys, North Shields

On the waterfront, close to the Fish Quay, these three superannuated navigation buoys have been put to use to commemorate the three cycle routes which converge a short distance west of this point - National Route 1 (Inverness to Dover or - locally - "Coast and Castles route"), National Route 72 ("Hadrians Cycleway", Tynemouth to Carlisle and Ravenglass) and Regional Route 10 ("Reivers Route", Tynemouth to Carlisle and Whitehaven via Kielder).
