The Bath Wells Signpost Bristol
This sign post is located in Totterdown where the A4 road to Bath splits from the A37 to Wells. It is a Finger post dating from the early 19th C and is made of cast iron.
It is grade II listed and its listing says:-
Cast-iron column and glass lamps.
Fluted Doric column and square entablature with triglyphs,
carrying 2 finger posts with pointing hands and pierced
lettering, indicating BATH and WELLS. Restored c1985 with 3
glass balloon lamps. Known familiarly as the Bishop of Bath
and Wells. '...one of the finest early C19 signposts in
England' (Pevsner).
