Pre-Worboys road sign, Montacute
The sign pointing towards Yeovil identifies the road as the A358. On the other side of the fingerpost it uses the newer number, A3088. Neither is now accurate: the A3088 now bypasses the village, running along the bed of the old railway line.
Pre-Worboys road signs
These are known as pre-Worboys signs because in 1965 new signs were introduced acting on the recommendations of the Worboys Committee which had been tasked with reviewing the UK's road signage. The new designs have mostly remained in current use with only minor changes.
