View southward, towards Reading and London: ex-GWR main line via Reading. This is a relief to the 'Pines Express' and up to September 1962 would also have run over the Somerset & Dorset route, Bath and Birmingham New Street: instead it is working via Basingstoke, Reading West Curve, Oxford, Birmingham Snow Hill and Wolverhampton Low Level, then by the Bushbury Loop onto the LMR for Stafford, Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly. Collett 'Grange' 4-6-0 No. 6803 'Bucklebury Grange' (built 9/36, withdrawn 9/65) was probably working the train between Basingstoke and Wolverhampton.
