Carousel still going round
There may be market renewal work going on all around with a hole in the ground in front and a works unit behind it by the White Lion, but the century old children's carousel continues to go round and round.
Cooke's Children's Carousel
The roundabout on Hyde Market was manufactured by Halsteads of Sowerby Bridge in 1897. It was established on Hyde Market in 1919 by John William (Jack) Greaves. In the 1920s he passed it to his daughter Lily and her husband Bill Cooke. It has now been in the Cooke family for three generations.
