Exchange Square
A view of Manchester's Exchange Square taken from the steps of SJ8398 : Manchester Arndale Centre on a very wet evening in April. The square is now looking much more open since the removal of the Manchester Wheel (SJ8398 : The Manchester Wheel, Corporation Street) earlier in the month. The building on the other side of the square is The Triangle Shopping Centre (formerly The Corn Exchange SJ8398 : The Triangle, Manchester), a Grade II listed building dating from 1897.
Exchange Square, Manchester
Exchange Square is a public space which was created after the IRA’s 1996 Manchester bombing. Today the square is a major shopping area including a branch of Selfridges, New Cathedral Street, The Triangle shopping Centre and an entrance to the Manchester Arndale, the most-visited shopping centre in the United Kingdom.
The square is served by Exchange Square Metrolink station on the Manchester Metrolink network. Construction on the new extension started in 2014 and the entire Second City Crossing scheme Link became operational in 2017.
