RCTS Rail Tour to Swindon at Victoria
Ready to leave Platform 7 at Victoria (Eastern) Station is the RCTS Swindon Tour of 25 April 1954 (see TQ0366 : RCTS Victoria - Swindon and return Rail Tour at Chertsey), which in its route from this ex-SE&CR terminus commemorated some 19th century GWR suburban services. We were taken to the GWR main line via Longhedge Junction and Kensington Olympia by these two ex-GW 'Dukedog/Earl' 4-4-0s: Nos. 9023 (built 2/39 as No. 3223, a rebuild on the frames of 'Bulldog' No. 3423) and No. 9011 (built 3/37 as No. 3211 (named 'Earl of Ducie' for just three months), a rebuild of 'Bulldog' No. 3415; both were renumbered in 8/46 and withdrawn in 7/57.
