Coventry Market, Market Way, Coventry
The largest such covered market in the country when it was built, 1957-58. The circular design was chosen to "encourage circulation and to offer a number of entrances". The placing of the car park on top was in tune with Coventry's post-war central shopping areas designed by City Architect's Department, first under Donald Gibson and later, Arthur Ling. Although describing the architecture as "undistinguished", Pevsner regarded the shopping centres as "Coventry's justifiable pride". Grade II listed.
