View westward, towards the Up Marshalling Yard, Newport etc.: ex-GWR South Wales main line. All freight trains through the Tunnel were assisted in front by one of the many Churchward '3150' and '5100' 5'8" 2-6-2Ts of Severn Tunnel Junction Depot dedicated to the purpose. Here No. 3172 (built 10/1907, withdrawn 10/57) is piloting a relatively small train-engine, Collett '5600' 0-6-2T No. 6676 (built 9/28, withdrawn 4/63).
