Charlcotte Iron Furnace
Charlcotte Iron Furnace
Charcoal fired blast furnace built c1700 and blown out c1780. Annual cast iron production was 200-600 tons per annum with a highest of 763 tons in 1749-50. It was water powered with a wheel to drive the bellows. The blast arch is the smaller arch more directly facing the photographer while the tapping arch with cast iron lintels faces to the right. This was included on the itinerary of National Mills Weekend as a former water powered site.
National Mills Weekend 2012

National Mills Weekend is an annual celebration of the UK's milling heritage. The event is organised by the Mills Section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
The 2012 dates were the 12th and 13th May. Over 450 buildings were open to visitors meaning many to choose from. They ranged from fully working wind and water mills to under restoration or rarely open buildings.
