Albert Road, Saltaire
Albert Road, Saltaire
The houses here have small front gardens, indicating that they were built for the 'overlookers', or mill foremen. The model village was laid out on a grid pattern to make maximum use of the land available. Further along Albert Road, the houses become semi-detached, indicating that they were for the mill's executives, teachers and the church minister. They would have had fine views over the open countryside to the west.
