This memorial by W.B.Rhind of Edinburgh is a grade II listed monument
Link It was erected in 1888 to commemorate all 13 lifeboatmen from the St Annes-on-Sea Lifeboat, the "Laura Janet", who died whilst trying to save the crew of a German ship called the "Mexico" in December 1886. A further 14 lifeboatmen out of a crew of 16 from the Southport Lifeboat Station, also died in the same incident. The crew of the Mexico were eventually saved by the Lytham Lifeboat.

It was this disaster which led to the RNLI starting street collections for donations. The memorial is designed so that the lifeboatman is looking out to the spot where the Mexico had run aground.
It stands in gardens by the South Promenade in front of a toilet block.
