Nottingham - NG1 (Castle)
A view down Castle Road looking towards Castle Boulevard (A6005). On the left is the Severns building seen from near to the main entrance to the Nottingham castle. Dendrochronological studies suggest that some of the oak roof timbers date from 1335. In the late 60s/early 70s and prior to the development of the Broad Marsh shopping centre it was removed from its original location on Middle Pavement and re-erected here. The Severn brothers began a wine and spirit business in an adjoining Georgian house in 1735 and then in 1900 the firm acquired this adjacent 15th-century timber-framed building. It was closed in April 2009, having served until then as a lace-related museum. It is currently owned by a property company.
