Coppiced area
These sweet chestnut coppice stools show a couple of years growth. In the background you can see the harvested logs left for seasoning.

A coppice stool is the live "stump" that is left after the tree has been harvested, and from which new growth emerges.
Norsey Wood
Norsey Wood is a mixed coppice woodland covering an area of 65ha (165 acres) and consists of a variety of habitats because of the different underlying geology. It has a history that goes back some 4000 years and this, together with the richness of its wildlife, makes this site unique.

The Wood has been designated a Local Nature Reserve, a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
