Atwood's Almshouses (2), Warlingham
For the most part Warlingham is an outer suburb where buildings date back no further than about 1870, so these 17th century almshouses are an unexpected survival. The almshouses were endowed by one Harmon Atwood in about 1675 (sources differ as to the exact date) LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )

I'm not entirely clear about this, but I suspect that the 'four widows' provided for by Atwood were to be accommodated in the single-storey wings, while the two-storey house at the back was intended for the curate. The brickwork of the curate's house (if that's what it is) is in neat Flemish bond, and may be more original than the brickwork of the wings. For the Listing details, see LinkExternal link
