This worn stone head is one of the few decorative features on the NS4673 : Burial place of Hamilton of Barns; see that photograph for context, for a view of the whole structure, and for more information. The vault is in the kirkyard of NS4673 : Old Kilpatrick Parish Church, and the carved head is at the eastern end of the southern side-wall of the vault.
Old Kilpatrick Parish Church

The church was built in 1812 on more or less the same spot as its predecessor (the latter was a pre-Reformation church; it was of great age, although the precise period in which it was built is unknown).
