Railway and industrial panorama at east end of Washwood Heath Sidings
View westward - before the M6 was built, on the ex-Midland Birmingham - Derby main line at the east end of the Up Yard of the great Washwood Heath complex. A new Diesel, Type 4 (later Class 46) No. D139 (built 11/61, withdrawn as No. 46002 in 9/81) is passing with a brake-tender - needed for working loose-coupled freight trains. Behind it are a BR 9F 2-10-0 and Stanier 8F 2-8-0. The cooling-towers of Nechells Power Station are prominent in the background.
