The memorial itself is located at the far end of the line of stones, where it is seen side-on; for a better view of the memorial itself, and for more information, see the NS2676 : Highland Mary Monument.

The present view is intended mainly to show its situation within Greenock Cemetery (note the NS2676 : The Watt Cairn, prominent in the background). The location has been improved considerably in recent years.

The inscription on the low stone in the foreground is "Greenock Burns Club / Inst. 1801 / The Mother Club / For A' That".
Highland Mary Memorial

This monument commemorates Margaret Campbell (1763-86), Robert Burns' "Highland Mary". In 1920, her remains were brought here from the (original) Old West Kirkyard. The memorial was designed by William Mossman snr., and carved by his son John Mossman in about 1841.

Greenock Cemetery

The cemetery, which is laid out on Bow Hill, opened in 1846. For detailed information, see the Geograph article "Greenock Cemetery" Link and, for a map and useful guide, the booklet "Greenock Cemetery Walks" LinkExternal link (PDF) produced by East End Advisory (funded by Inverclyde Council); the PDF link works, as of January 2016.
