Stondon Transport Museum

There is more to this museum than implied by the modest entrance. It claims to be 'the largest private museum in England' and is a huge collection of over 400 exhibits accumulated by one man, F.J.Saunders, who started collecting over 40 years ago. It consists mainly of cars, going back over 100 years, but also motorcycles, military, police and rescue vehicles, the odd aircraft, and many other associated bits and pieces, all crammed into eight 'halls'. Most items are still in running order. There is also a full-size replica of Captain Cook's ship Endeavour, and there is also a display of over 400 models of aircraft made over a period of 40 years by Rev. Allon Taffs from near Royston, which were left to his brother and donated by him to the museum. The museum closed at Easter 2015, LinkExternal link , following the death of Mr Saunders in 2013, and many of the vehicles are being sold by auction on 10 June 2015 LinkExternal link
